4 De-stressing Tips You’ve Probably Never Heard Before

Stress: There aren’t too many folks who don’t have this meddlesome monkey on their backs at some time or another.

On the plus side, the stress response helps you stay focused, energetic, and alert, and in emergency situations, it can save your life.

But on the negative side, stress can wreak havoc on your health and quality of life. Adopt even a couple of the tips below and you’ll be ahead of the game!

  1. Eliminate known stressors: For instance, if crowds and lines bug you, go to the store during non-peak times. And how about skipping the stressful rush hour commute by working non-traditional office hours. Or, maybe you get stressed out simply navigating around the clutter in your home? Clear it out via a garage sale or donate to the neighborhood thrift shop.
  2. Reconsider recreation: Is your golf game (or other favorite hobby) leaving you feeling frustrated and angry? Maybe it’s time to visit some less stressful leisure pursuits. After all, the whole point of these activities is to have a good time and relax!
  3. Select your devices wisely: From cell phones to iPads, sometimes ‘labor saving’ devices can encourage us to cram too many activities into the day and suck up valuable time. Before you snap up the latest device, stop and consider: Will this truly improve my life?
  4. Remember sometimes it’s okay to do nothing!

If you suffer from insomnia, headaches, recurring colds or stomachaches consider whether stress is part of the problem.

And if you feel stress is taking over your life, seek professional help. Early signs of excessive stress may include losing a sense of well-being and reluctance to get up in the morning and face another day.
